PRIVACY POLICY
Travel New Zealand LLC
Last Updated: August 29, 2026
Travel New Zealand LLC (“Travel New Zealand,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information when you use our websites, mobile or web applications, AI-assisted travel planning tools, itinerary builder, map and discovery features, account services, support services, provider pages, paid access services, travel advisor services, and any related products or services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Services”).
This Privacy Policy applies to the Travel New Zealand app, website, and related services, including current and future features such as AI-assisted trip planning, saved places, itinerary planning, account registration, paid access purchases, provider listings, paid or sponsored provider visibility, member support, travel advisor referrals, and travel advisor or booking assistance when separately offered.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to websites, applications, booking platforms, government agencies, travel suppliers, payment processors, app stores, accommodation providers, activity operators, transportation providers, insurers, or other third parties that we do not own or control. When you leave our Services or use a third-party service, that third party’s privacy policy and terms apply.
1. Important Summary
We provide travel discovery, planning, itinerary organization, and informational guidance for New Zealand travel. Our Services may use artificial intelligence, maps, travel content, destination information, provider listings, user preferences, and official or third-party resources to help users explore travel ideas.
Travel New Zealand is an independent travel planning app operated by Travel New Zealand LLC. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Tourism New Zealand, the New Zealand Government, the Department of Conservation (DOC), Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), or any official tourism authority unless expressly stated.
We do not sell full payment card numbers. Payment information is handled by third-party payment processors, app stores, or billing providers when paid services are offered.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We do not intend for users to submit sensitive personal information such as passport numbers, government identification numbers, medical records, financial account numbers, precise home addresses, emergency information, or children’s personal information into AI chat, planner notes, support messages, or other free-text fields unless we specifically provide a secure dedicated process for that information.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of information depending on how you use the Services.
A. Account and Contact Information
We may collect your name, email address, login credentials or authentication identifiers, account settings, communication preferences, paid access status, and other information you provide when creating or managing an account.
B. Travel Preferences and Planner Information
We may collect information you provide or generate through the Services, including trip dates, destinations of interest, travel pace, traveler type, budget preferences, lodging preferences, activity interests, saved places, favorites, itinerary days, planned stops, notes, route preferences, and other trip-planning inputs.
C. AI Assistant and Chat Information
If you use an AI assistant, chatbot, trip planner, itinerary generator, recommendation feature, or similar tool, we may collect and process your prompts, messages, questions, preferences, generated responses, saved outputs, edits, feedback, and related context.
AI-generated travel information may be processed by us and by third-party AI, hosting, infrastructure, analytics, or security providers that help us provide, maintain, debug, secure, and improve the Services.
D. Support Messages
If you contact us for technical support, account support, billing support, feedback, or other assistance, we may collect your messages, email address, account details, device/browser information, screenshots or attachments you provide, and related correspondence.
Support messaging is intended for account and technical support. It is not intended for emergency assistance, travel safety advice, reservation support, legal advice, immigration advice, medical advice, or real-time travel decision-making.
E. Paid Access, Billing, and Transaction Information
If paid access (such as a one-time Trip Pass), travel advisor services, provider listings, sponsored placements, or other paid services are offered, we may collect transaction records, plan type, billing status, invoice details, refund status, purchase history, app store purchase metadata, and payment processor identifiers.
Full payment card numbers are handled by payment processors, app stores, or billing providers. We do not intend to store full credit card numbers on our own systems.
F. Device, Usage, and Technical Information
We may collect IP address, device identifiers, browser type, operating system, app version, pages or screens viewed, referring pages, session activity, crash logs, error reports, diagnostic information, approximate location derived from IP address, time zone, language settings, and interactions with features.
To operate and improve the Services, we also keep first-party aggregate interaction counts — for example, how often a provider listing is viewed, saved, added to an itinerary, or marked as booked; how often a destination is added to or removed from an itinerary; how itineraries are generated, edited, saved, exported, or shared; which articles, curated itineraries, FAQs, and travel-essentials links are used; which filters and categories are used; and how often a provider listing’s website, booking, phone, or email link is opened. These counts are recorded for every user because they are needed to run, improve, and report on the Services, but they do not include your name, email address, account, device, IP address, precise location, trip titles, notes, search text, or any content you type. They describe listings, destinations, content, and features, not you.
G. Location Information
We may use approximate location information, such as location inferred from your IP address, to operate, localize, secure, analyze, or improve the Services.
If we later offer features that request precise device location, we will request permission where required and use that information only as described at the time of collection and in this Privacy Policy. You can generally disable precise location access through your device or browser settings.
H. Provider and Business Information
If you are a travel provider, accommodation provider, activity operator, tourism business, travel advisor, or other business partner, we may collect business contact information, provider profile information, listing content, images, descriptions, website links, service categories, pricing or availability information you provide, account details, payment or billing information, and communications with us.
I. Marketing and Communications Information
We may collect your marketing preferences, newsletter signups, survey responses, campaign interactions, unsubscribe requests, and related communication history.
J. User-Provided Content
You may provide notes, reviews, comments, feedback, images, provider descriptions, listing materials, itinerary notes, support attachments, or other content. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to submit that content and that it does not include unlawful, confidential, infringing, or sensitive information.
K. Booking Support Requests
If you submit a booking support request from the planner, we collect the contact details you enter (name, email address, phone number, country, preferred contact method, and any notes) together with your itinerary and trip details (route, dates, travel style, traveler count, budget range and estimated spend, accommodation, activity, and campsite selections, and saved places) and related account identifiers. We collect this information only when you submit a request. See Section 7C for how it is shared.
3. Sensitive Information Warning
Do not submit the following through AI chat, planner notes, support messages, provider descriptions, or other free-text areas unless we specifically request it through a secure dedicated process:
- Passport numbers or government ID numbers
- Full payment card numbers or bank account details
- Medical records, diagnoses, disability documentation, or health insurance information
- Precise home addresses
- Emergency information or urgent safety details
- Children’s personal information
- Social Security numbers or tax identification numbers
- Passwords or security codes
- Confidential business information
- Any information you would not want processed by service providers used to operate the app
If you choose to submit sensitive information anyway, you do so at your own risk, and we may delete, restrict, or decline to process it.
4. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services
- Create and manage user accounts
- Generate, save, edit, and display itineraries, favorites, maps, planner data, and trip suggestions
- Provide AI-assisted travel planning and informational responses
- Personalize content, recommendations, saved places, and app experience
- Provide technical, account, billing, and customer support
- Process paid access purchases, payments, refunds, invoices, provider listings, and paid placements
- Communicate with you about your account, transactions, service updates, legal notices, and security matters
- Send newsletters, marketing, or promotional messages where permitted by law and your preferences
- Analyze usage, diagnose errors, test features, and improve performance
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, unlawful activity, or violations of our Terms
- Enforce our agreements and protect our rights, users, business, and Services
- Comply with legal obligations, lawful requests, tax, accounting, dispute, and regulatory requirements
- Create aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify you
5. AI Processing
Our Services may use AI systems to help generate travel suggestions, destination descriptions, itinerary structures, route ideas, trip planning guidance, summaries, and support responses.
Information you provide to AI features may be processed by us and by third-party AI or infrastructure providers. Our AI features currently use OpenAI’s API. We send OpenAI the trip inputs the feature needs (such as your itinerary, dates, travel style, and preferences) together with our own content; we do not send your name, email address, or account identifiers as part of these requests. OpenAI processes that data under its API terms and data-usage policies, which may include limited retention for abuse monitoring. We use this processing to provide the AI feature, maintain safety and security, debug issues, improve quality, prevent abuse, and operate the Services.
AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unsuitable for your circumstances. You should not provide sensitive information to AI features unless we specifically instruct you to do so through a secure process.
6. Cookies, Analytics, and Similar Technologies
We and our service providers may use cookies, pixels, local storage, SDKs, analytics tools, log files, and similar technologies to:
- Keep you signed in
- Remember preferences
- Secure the Services
- Understand usage
- Measure performance
- Diagnose errors
- Improve product design
- Support marketing or attribution, where permitted
You may be able to manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect functionality.
Essential (always on). Cookies and local storage needed to run the app, keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and secure the Services; error and reliability monitoring; and the first-party aggregate interaction counts described in Section 2F. These do not identify you and cannot be turned off.
Optional product analytics (off unless you turn it on). We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate app usage and improve Travel New Zealand. It runs only after you accept analytics in Privacy Choices.
Optional ad measurement (off unless you turn it on). We use Google Ads conversion measurement to understand whether our ads lead to signups, purchases, inquiries, or other app actions. It runs only after you accept ad measurement in Privacy Choices.
Not used at launch. We do not use remarketing, retargeting, personalized advertising, third-party advertising pixels, session replay, or heatmap tools.
The content you type — AI conversations, planner notes, and support messages — is never sent to analytics or advertising services.
You can change your choices at any time from Privacy Choices in the app menu. If we use analytics, advertising, retargeting, or tracking tools that require consent in your jurisdiction, we will provide appropriate controls where required.
7. How We Share Information
We may share information with the following categories of recipients.
A. Service Providers
We may share information with vendors and service providers that help us operate the Services, including hosting providers, database providers, authentication providers, AI providers, analytics providers, email providers, support tools, payment processors, app stores, map providers, error monitoring tools, security providers, and development tools.
Our current core service providers are: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, and server functions; our primary database is hosted in Sydney, Australia), Vercel (web hosting and delivery), Stripe (payment processing for paid access), OpenAI (AI-assisted planning features), Google (Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement, which run only if you turn them on in Privacy Choices, and Google Workspace for our business email), Sentry (error and reliability monitoring), and Mapbox (maps, basemap tiles, and directions). Each processes information only to provide its service to us and under its own terms and privacy policy. We may add or replace providers over time and will update this list.
B. Payment Processors and App Stores
If you purchase paid access or another paid service, payment information and purchase metadata may be processed by payment processors, app stores, or billing platforms. Their privacy policies and terms may also apply.
C. Travel Advisors, Suppliers, and Booking Partners
Booking Support is a limited, gated feature that is not generally available and may be switched off; nothing in this section applies unless you choose to submit a request. We share booking support requests only when you submit one. If you submit a booking support request, Travel New Zealand reviews it and may, where appropriate, share your request — including your name, email address, phone number, country, preferred contact method, notes, and your itinerary and trip details — with an independent New Zealand booking partner so that partner can contact you, provide a quote, or arrange or assist with bookings. The partner’s own privacy policy and terms apply to information it receives. Travel New Zealand may receive a referral fee or commission if you book through that partner.
If you separately request travel advisor assistance or supplier-related services, we may likewise share the information needed to fulfill that request with travel advisors, suppliers, operators, accommodations, transportation providers, insurers, or other relevant partners.
D. Provider Listing Partners
If you interact with provider listings, sponsored placements, inquiry tools, or business profiles, we may share information as necessary to provide that feature. We will not represent paid visibility as an endorsement or guarantee.
Where we provide reports to providers, they contain only aggregate counts of how often a listing was viewed, saved, added to an itinerary, or marked as booked, and how often its website, booking, phone, or email link was opened. “Marked as booked” is traveler-indicated (self-reported) in the traveler’s own plan; it is not a confirmed booking and is never verified with the provider. These reports contain no personal information and do not identify you.
E. Legal, Safety, and Compliance
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, court orders, subpoenas, government requests, tax obligations, or regulatory requirements; to enforce our Terms; to protect rights, property, safety, security, or users; or to investigate fraud, abuse, or unlawful activity.
F. Business Transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction.
G. Aggregated or De-Identified Information
We may share aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify you.
8. Third-Party Links and Services
The Services may link to government websites, tourism websites, booking platforms, accommodations, activity providers, transportation providers, insurance providers, app stores, payment processors, map providers, and other third parties.
We do not control third-party websites, services, privacy practices, terms, prices, availability, safety practices, booking rules, cancellation policies, or content. Review each third party’s privacy policy and terms before using their services or providing information.
9. Marketing Communications
If you subscribe to marketing emails or otherwise consent to receive promotional communications, we may send you marketing messages. You may unsubscribe using the instructions in those messages or by contacting us.
We may still send non-marketing messages such as account notices, transaction notices, security alerts, support responses, legal updates, and service-related communications.
10. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Services, maintain accounts, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain security, prevent fraud, support tax and accounting obligations, keep backups, and operate our business.
Retention periods vary depending on the type of information, the nature of your relationship with us, legal requirements, and business needs.
You may request deletion of certain information as described below, subject to legal, security, backup, fraud-prevention, dispute, accounting, and operational exceptions.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission, storage, or processing is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised.
12. International Data Transfers
Travel New Zealand LLC is based in the United States. Our primary database, authentication, and file storage are hosted by Supabase in Sydney, Australia. Other service providers (including Vercel, Stripe, OpenAI, Google, Sentry, and Mapbox) process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Information may therefore be processed in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries.
Data protection laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
13. Children’s Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete the information.
Minors may use the Services only with involvement and permission from a parent or legal guardian. Adults are responsible for travel planning involving minors.
14. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of certain information
- Request a copy of certain information in portable format
- Opt out of certain processing, such as targeted advertising, sale, or sharing where applicable
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Object to or restrict certain processing where applicable
- Appeal a denied privacy request where required by law
- Lodge a complaint with a privacy regulator where applicable
These rights may be subject to exceptions under applicable law.
To make a request, contact us at info@travelnewzealand.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
15. California Privacy Notice
If you are a California resident, you may have rights under California privacy law, including rights to know, access, delete, correct, opt out of certain sale or sharing of personal information, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. One exception may arise only if you choose to submit a Booking Support request: we may then refer your request and contact details to an independent booking partner and may receive a referral fee or commission if you book through that partner, which some interpretations of California law could treat as a “sale” or “sharing.” That referral happens only if you submit a request, and you can decline to. If any feature involves a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under applicable law, we will provide the required notices and opt-out mechanisms, and California residents may contact us at info@travelnewzealand.com to exercise their rights.
16. Texas Privacy Notice
If you are a Texas resident, you may have rights under Texas privacy law, including rights to confirm whether we process your personal data, access personal data, correct inaccuracies, delete personal data, obtain a copy of personal data, and opt out of certain processing such as targeted advertising, sale of personal data, or certain profiling where applicable.
You may submit a request by contacting info@travelnewzealand.com.
17. EU, UK, and Similar Jurisdictions
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar privacy laws, our legal bases for processing may include performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, compliance with legal obligations, and protection of rights and safety.
You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object, transfer, or withdraw consent, subject to applicable law.
18. New Zealand Users
If you are located in New Zealand, you may have rights under New Zealand privacy law, including rights to access and request correction of personal information. You may contact us at info@travelnewzealand.com to make a request.
19. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new “Last Updated” date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice as required by law.
Your continued use of the Services after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means you acknowledge the updated Privacy Policy.
